“Miradas” in Factoría Habana

Factoría Habana opened on May 24 the exhibition Miradas, curated by Concha Fontenla. This show tries to pay tribute to the 30^th anniversary of Havana Biennale.

Miradas is, beyond a show, an invitation made up of seventeen Cuban creators standing as a mosaic that simultaneously represents a product and reflection of the evolution of the society and art on the island nation over the past decades. Heterogeneous, complex, mixed and versatile despite the deeply-rooted tradition and the significance of a nature that play a leading role in the creation of its identity, the Cuban people can recognize and express itself in this display that tries to involve viewers from the very concept that names it, since the viewers’ approach is the one to complete and/or question its superb imaginary.

Aimée García, Antonio Fernández (Tonel), Carlos Montes de Oca, Eduardo Ponjuán, Felipe Dulzaides, Ibrahim Miranda, José Ángel Toirac, José Manuel Fors, Jorge López Pardo, Lidzie Alvisa, Luis Enrique Camejo, Pedro Pablo Oliva, Roberto Fabelo, Sandra Ramos and Santiago Rodríguez Olazabal.

All in all, these artworks draw a possible tour throughout Cuban contemporary art, by highlighting a past that makes it so peculiar, without putting aside its intimate relation with the latest trends of contemporary creations, as it has undoubtedly put on the map distinctive and outstanding notes.
