PULSE Miami 2011

PULSE is the main fair in the US that’s exclusively focused on contemporary art. Each edition is dedicated to the host city, going deeper into its cultural heritage. After the successful New York edition in 2011, its organizers are planning every detail for PULSE Miami, to be held on December 1 - 4.

PULSE Miami was started up during the winter of 2005. As usual, the event is looking forward to combining acclaimed galleries and emerging spaces in order to offer collectors varied proposals. Important art professional have historically met in PULSE, such as Simon Baker, curator at Tate Modern; Dan Cameron, director of Prospect New Orleans; Thomas Campbell, director of Metropolitan Museum of Art; Amanda Coulson, director of VOLTA Fair; Katelijne De Backer, director of Armory Show; Carter Foster, Curator at Whitney Museum; Elizabeth Ann MacGregor, director of Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art, among others.

Within the Fair, Pulse Projects program is devoted to the presentation and promotion of large scale sculptures, installations and performances that involve viewers. The goal is connecting a group of galleries and international artists with local cultural institutions, communities and audiences. Exhibitors, non-profitable organizations and independent artists have the opportunity, at the Ice Palace, of presenting works that turn out to be incompatible with usual exhibition models in stands with reduced dimensions. This element promotes the exploration of artistic practice within the framework of an art fair and the access of more viewers.

IMPULSE section includes galleries invited by the Committee to organize individual exhibitions with artworks created during the last two years. A prize is awarded to the finest curatorial project.

Stay tuned for AxE News’ updates on the program for 2011 PULSE Miami 2011.
