The Comodin exhibition, by young Cuban artist Rolando Vazquez, opened on Friday Nov. 25 at the Center for the Development of Visual Arts (CDAV is the Spanish acronym) in Havana. It’s made up of five pieces that combine artworks with light and fabrics, relying on large rugged iron planks that chip in basic elements for the deconstruction of the artworks. Vazquez comes up with a duality, a conceptual game that overlap subtle ludicrous elements with those forged of the “metal”: a Cuban flag, the Revolution Square, the people, an aircraft.
As tradition dictates, other grand openings are scheduled for the same time in the Center. At the Zaguan and Alamacen halls, the De paso exhibit by Carlos Pazos will be in display. In it, the artist mulls over –based on his acute observation and re-colocation- the lifestyles of today’s Cuban society. For its part, Hall L will open the
Communication in Berlin and Havanaexhibit, a joint project by Cuban and German artists: Teresa Sanchez, Ines Garrido, Javier Martinez, Alexei Diaz, Teresa Casanueva, Katrin Günther and Thomas Michel.
