Amadeo Luciano Lorenzato's solo exhibition in Belo Horizonte

Amadeo Luciano Lorenzato's solo exhibition Imaginação Criativa marks the 30th anniversary of his death by bringing together 150 emblematic works. Known as Lorenzato, he was a Brazilian modernist painter who depicted the landscapes and daily life of the suburbs of Belo Horizonte. He is considered one of the greatest personalities of the visual arts of Minas Gerais.

With Minas Gerais as the theme of the program, the Visual Arts Department presents in its first statement of the year “Up the Mountain” (a jargon widely used by people from Minas Gerais) the solo exhibition of Amadeo Luciano Lorenzato, considered a seminal artist of his generation. The artist was fascinated by the natural world and the symbols of everyday life. Practically self-taught, Lorenzato created a unique set of paintings based on his detailed observations of the daily life of his hometown, Belo Horizonte, depicting landscapes, still lifes and scenes from the neighborhood. Although he was already recognized during his lifetime, the recent attention to his work has led to a well-deserved reevaluation of the artist, which has made it possible to highlight his place in the broader context of Brazilian modernism and the history of international art.
