The Ministry of Culture, the Head Office of the Book Fair and the Museum of Modern Art of Dominican Republic (MAM is the Spanish acronym) are going to display solo shows: “Le Panthéon de Mercader”, by artist José Mercader; and “Looop”, by Elvis Díaz, on Friday April 25 at 7:00 p.m.; and collective exhibition “Arte Panameño: Ayer y Hoy” on Sunday 27, at 7:00 p.m., within the framework of 2014 International Book Fair of Dominican Republic (FILRD is the Spanish acronym).
“Le Panthéon de Mercader” includes one hundred artworks in different formats. The opening is going to take place at the basement of the Museum of Modern Art, 7:00 p.m.
Likewise, the Project Hall will be hosting “Looop”, based on video-art, video-installation and video-performance by multidisciplinary artist Elvis Díaz, who has participated in over forty collective and solo shows and art contests.
Sunday 27 will be the day for “Arte Panameño: Ayer y Hoy”, a collective show on modern and contemporary art by the Honorary Guest Country in the 17th International Book Fair 2014 Santo Domingo, dedicated to writer Domingo Moreno Jimenes.
“Arte Panameño: Ayer y Hoy” includes a series of works, such as paintings, engravings and drawings, from the Museum of Modern Art, created by artists Guillermo Trujillo, Rodney Selenka, Teresa Icaza, Roosvelt Díaz, Raúl Vásquez Saez, Alicia Viteri, Julio Zachrisson, Luis Aguilar Ponce, Antonio Alvarado, Coquí Calderón, Manuel Chong Neto, Juan Dal Vera, Eduardo Pérez, Alfredo Sinclair, Tabo Toral and Ana Elena Garuz. Furthermore, this exhibition counts on the participation of contemporary artists Elpidio Mendoza, Ahamed Hassan, Kansuet, Michael Leonardo, Darién Montañez and Pilar Moreno.
MAM’s second floor is still housing “After all, tomorrow is another day”, a display by artist Jorge Pineda, where viewers can appreciate sculptures, drawings and installations that have been shown in biennales, museums and galleries over the past 15 years, in different cities around the globe.
Meanwhile, the third level is showcasing “Exposición Permanente del Museo de Arte Moderno”, which is made up of some of the most emblematic artworks of MAM’s collection from the precursors of Dominican art, the contribution of the first masters, the influence of historic avant-gardes and the development of national art, showing incidences and trends of today’s art.
The exhibitions are going to be open to the public from April 24 to May 5, 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m., throughout the International Book Fair to be held at the Museum of Modern Art in Dominican Republic, Pedro Henríquez Ureña Av., Juan Pablo Duarte Culture Square.
