Pinta BAphoto celebrated its 20th edition as Latin America’s premier photography fair. Held from October 25 to 27 at La Rural, this year’s fair concluded on a high note with participation from federal and Latin American galleries, drawing over 14,000 visitors.
Artistic Program and International Participation
In this 2024 edition, Pinta BAphoto presented an extraordinary artistic program to celebrate photography in all its forms, from emerging visions to established works. The fair featured curated sections, special projects, a series of talks, a section dedicated to independent publishers, and events that explored the richness and diversity of contemporary photography.
A highlight of this edition was its international participation, with six Latin American art galleries from Uruguay, Colombia, Paraguay, Venezuela, the United States, and Peru: AC Latin Art (Miami), Casa Zirio (Bogotá), Black Gallery (Pueblo Garzón), Artística Galería de Arte (Asunción), Confines del Paraguay (Asunción), Carmen Araujo Arte (Caracas), and Carlos Caamaño Ediciones (Lima).
Awards and Acquisitions
Galleries expressed enthusiasm for the fair’s renewal and successful sales. Among the acquisitions, notable photography figure and collector Jean Louis Larivière acquired four works by artist Julio Grinblatt from Ruth Benzacar gallery, a work by Alicia D’Amico from Vasari gallery, and two works by honored artist Jaime Bolotinsky. Additionally, the Oxenford Collection acquired a piece by artist Pompi Gutnisky from Tramo gallery.
As part of the awards program, the in situ prize was awarded on Friday, October 25, at 5 p.m. in the NEXT | Out of Focus section. This award went to artist Sandro Pereira from The White Lodge gallery (Córdoba, Argentina), selected by jurors Abel Guaglainone and Cecilia Remiro Valcárcel.
Pinta BAphoto was also proud to grant a participation scholarship to the Consultorio gallery from San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina, as part of a strategic partnership between Pinta BAphoto and the In Situ award, covering all costs and reinforcing support for new initiatives in contemporary photography.
FORO and Public Activities
Over the weekend, the FORO program offered vibrant programming, with more than 25 invited speakers who shared their perspectives on contemporary photography and reflected on the fair’s twenty-year history.
Guided tours led by specialists allowed attendees to deepen their understanding of the works and themes presented. Special tours were held for the Friends of MALBA, the MALBA Acquisitions Committee, the Friends of the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires, Club arteBA, and the National Museum of Fine Arts Board of Buenos Aires.
Pinta BAphoto received support from EFG Wealth Management as the Global Lead Partner. “We at EFG Wealth Management are proud to have partnered with Pinta BAphoto for the past five years, supporting Pinta at all its fairs and events around the world", said Victor Echevarria, Chairman of EFG for the Americas.
Adriana Arias, Head of Communication & Sustainability at Zurich Argentina, commented as Local Lead Partner: “At Zurich, we view Argentine art and culture as essential pillars for people’s care and well-being, which is why we are committed to initiatives that promote comprehensive cultural movements like Pinta BAphoto, a platform that energizes Argentina’s photography scene and its entire ecosystem. This year, Zurich celebrates 60 years in the country, and participating in Argentina’s most important photography fair is also our way of celebrating.”
Omint sponsored the NEXT | Out of Focus section, showcasing a wide presence of national galleries and innovative artistic offerings. Pinta BAphoto also received valuable support from Buenos Aires City, Cultural Patronage, and the National Secretariat of Culture, which collaborated with MICA to present the FORO series of talks featuring over 25 speakers.
Special thanks go to Manifesto for providing the VIP space and to the Larivière Foundation and La Nación’s Hambre de Futuro. The event would not have been possible without the additional support of Spritz Hibiscus Gancia and Killka by Bodega Salentein.
Further thanks go to Raghsa and Eseade, who, through an educational alliance, provided general assistance and guided tours for the public. The public engagement team wore special uniforms created by Peruvian designers Manuel Bruce and Adrien Riesser of the Common Table brand.
Pinta BAphoto also benefited from the commitment of Nicole Moises, ArtPlacer, Clarín, Kooness, Grupo Muchnik, and Arte al Día.
