Return the French design to Havana

The celebration these days of the II Biennial of Design of Havana and the IV Month of French Culture, has brought again to the capital of the Greater Antilles a sample of the work of the prestigious Parisian public schools Boulle and Duperré, which already exhibited their work here in 2016, during the first edition of the great event of Cuban designers.

The headquarters of the Alliance Française, in the Paseo del Prado, has offered several of its rooms to the exhibition that, inaugurated last Wednesday May 22 with the title Beyond the form exhibits, on the part of the Duperré School, creations of students of the Craft of Art and Design diploma course; as well as the winning collection in the international contest of the Luxury House Loro Piarna, Italian clothing company, specializing in cashmere and wool products.

For its part, the Boulle School, also dedicated in the French capital to fine arts, crafts and applied arts, shows the pedagogical project that will represent it together with other universities of the world in the commemorative exhibition Chambord 1519-2019: from the utopia to the work, which will show proposals, in a certain way chimerical but probable, to turn the patrimonial Renaissance castle into a domestic house that responds to the current climatic, social and political challenges.

The project of this center, now presented in Havana, consists of the conversion of the interior of the historic building into small apartments that, without violating the original structures, give refuge to part of the immigrants who arrive daily in the French capital in search of better life conditions.

After concluding its capital segment on Sunday, the II Biennial of Design of Havana will move its headquarters from May 30 to June 2 to the city of Santiago de Cuba and, from 13 to 16 of next month, to Camagüey. Within it will also take place the X International Design Congress Form 2019, scheduled to be held from June 4 to 7 at the Convention Center.

Meanwhile, the IV Month of French Culture in Cuba will be held until June 30 with a varied program of events aimed at promoting exchanges between creators of both countries, also in other specialties such as music, architecture, dance and the visual arts.
