Belo Horizonte hosts the Pedro Moraleida Bernardes Institute

The Pedro Moraleida Bernardes Institute, an exhibition and cultural space that will house and promote the legacy of the artist Pedro Moraleida (1977-1999), opens its doors in Belo Horizonte this Wednesday (28), as well as promoting cultural events in fields ranging from the visual arts to music, cinema, literature and comics.

A total artist – he produced more than 1,500 works in his lifetime, including paintings, drawings, comics, texts and sound experiments – Pedro Moraleida was a flash of expressiveness and brilliance, acclaimed in posthumous exhibitions at venues such as the Tomie Ohtake Institute (SP) and the Berlin Biennale (Germany).

The iPMB consolidates and expands an intense and fulminant artistic trajectory, which marked an entire artistic scene in Belo Horizonte at the end of the 1990s and whose potential for enchantment and influence has only just begun.

An intense program, Moraleida 25 years later, marks the inauguration of the institute, as well as paying homage to the artist on the 25th anniversary of his death.

The opening event, the contemporary Moraleida exhibition, brings together 71 works by Moraleida (some of them unseen), curated by Augusto Nunes-Filho. The artist will also have subsequent exhibitions at Viaduto das Artes (Barreiro), focusing on his drawings and comics; at the Academia Mineira de Letras, focusing on Moraleida the writer; and at the UFMG Cultural Center.

Moraleida will also win a cycle of debates – Art Today: Encounters – promoted by iPMB, which will bring together exponents of the arts and culture at the Academia Mineira de Letras, between September 2024 and April 2025, with national and international guests.
