Gary Nader Art Centre Supports the Grand Exhibition of Fernando Botero in Rome

Gary Nader Art Centre is proud to announce its support for the monumental exhibition of Colombian master Fernando Botero at Palazzo Bonaparte in Rome, which will take place from September 17, 2024, to January 19, 2025. This exhibition,"Fernando Botero: La Grande Mostra," marks the first anniversary of the iconic artist's passing, establishing itself as one of the most significant events honoring his legacy.

Organized by the Botero Foundation in collaboration with Arthemisia and curated by Lina Botero and Cristina Carrillo de Albornoz, the exhibition at Palazzo Bonaparte is the largest and most important collection of Botero's ouevre.

It presents over 120 pieces that explore the characteristic themes and subjects of his artistic career. From bourgeois portraits to scenes dedicated to the circus, religion, politics, and bullfighting, the exhibition highlights both the cultural traditions that shaped the Colombian master's aesthetic—drawing inspiration from artists like Francisco Goya, Pablo Picasso, and Diego Velázquez—and the unique originality that Botero brought to his representation of the human figure.

The exhibition presents a varied selection of paintings, watercolors, sanguine drawings, charcoals, and sculptures, showcasing the artist's incredible versatility. Of particular note are the reinterpretations of great masterpieces of art, such as the "Boterian" versions of Raphael's La Fornarina, the portraits of Flemish masters like Peter Paul Rubens and Jan van Eyck, and a special tribute to Andrea Mantegna. This latter piece, recently rediscovered by Lina Botero, is being exhibited to the public for the first time, adding historical value to the exhibition.

Considered the most extensive retrospective of Botero ever organized in Italy, "Fernando Botero: La Grande Mostra" accurately traces an artistic trajectory that spanned over sixty years, and ended just a year ago. This unmissable event in the autumn art calendar pays tribute to a master of contemporary art, whose unique approach and unmistakable vision redefined reality through his iconic style.

Gary Nader, owner of the world's most extensive private collection of Botero's ouevre and an internationally indefatigable promoter of his art, attended the exhibition's inauguration in Rome. In Nader's words: "Fernando Botero has been, and always will be, an essential figure in the art world. His unique vision and unwavering commitment to creating beauty through form and color have left an indelible mark on the history of modern art. Being present at the opening of this exhibition in Rome was a truly moving experience and a reminder of the enduring power of his work."

The Gary Nader Art Centre invites all its clients, followers, and art community members to learn more about this exceptional exhibition in Rome and continue celebrating the life and work of an artist whose influence has transcended generations and borders.
