The Apartment (pilot) collective exhibition, of the L21 of Palma de Mallorca Gallery, opened until next January 24, is the winner of the second edition of Ron Barcelo Imperial/ARCOmadrid Award.
This exhibition has been selected among over 400 displays presented during 2014 at the contemporary art Spanish galleries participating in ARCOmadrid 2015. In addition to the prize in cash, this award gives the winner the possibility of developing an adaptation of the exhibition at a fair space, to be held from February 25 to March 1.
Ron Barcelo Imperial, as a sponsor of ARCOmadrid 2015, continues and strengthens its support for the contemporary art through the second edition of this contest, which rewards creativity, initiative and talent of the Spanish artists.
The jury responsible for carrying out the vote has been composed of experts from the world of art, collecting and criticism. They include Juan Antonio Álvarez Reyes, director of the Andalusian Centre of contemporary art (CAAC), Seville; Javier Díaz Guardiola, coordinator of the art and architecture of ABC Cultural section; Javier Hontoria, curator, art critic and contributor to the Cultural and Artforum; Iñaki Martinez-Antelo, director of the Museum of contemporary art (MARCO), Vigo (Spain); Frederic Montornés, curator and independent critic art; Alicia Ventura, art consultant and director of the DKV collection and Carlos Urroz, director of ARCOmadrid.
They have appreciated the way in which the Gallery has developed a curatorship project shared between the gallery owners and their artists, due to the way the own exhibition space has turned into device, due to it has shown the work of the artists outside the usual format, and due to the exercise of transferring an image of the collectors’ domestic space to the gallery space.
