Art by Excelencias was recently accepted by the Spanish Association of Cultural Magazines (ARCE is the Spanish acronym) as a recognition to its two years of quarterly issues. Other publications that made the ARCE list are the Anoche tuve un Sueño magazine, published by Anoche tuve un Sueño S.L., and Tendencias del Mercado del Arte, published by Hojas de Arte e Inversión S.L. In the Social Sciences/Philosophy category, the new additions were made by the Grupo Machado Distribución S.L., with its quarterly magazine entitled La balsa de la Medusa.
In Jan, 2011, Art by Excelencias magazine’s issue 8 –currently in the works- will start making the rounds, with scheduled presentations in ARCO and Art Madrid in February. Carlos Quintana’s work will be the cover story this time around, coupled with Orlando Hernandez’s excellent article entitled Nibbling at Buddha’s Ear. Controversial Spanish artist Santiago Serra –who recently turned down his country’s National Plastic Arts Prize- will also be highlighted. Also in the upcoming issue, the customary sections on book commentaries, caricatures and contemporary design, as well as The Archivist by Jose Veigas, this time featuring Spanish-Cuban painter Segura Ezquerro. Other major topics will be addressed in the magazine’s eighth issue, such as Cuban video art, the influence of the Panama Biennial on that Central American country’s contemporary visual arts, among others.
