A large crowd of art lovers, the intelligentsia and news media from Madrid attended the February 18 grand opening of The One and the Many, Cuban Avant-garde and Contemporary Art.
The collective exhibit –it was on till February 25 at the Excelencias Cultural Space on 8 Magdalena Street– included drawings, paintings, photographs and graphic works from such masters of Cuban fine arts as Wifredo Lam, Fidelio Ponce, Mariano Rodriguez, Rene Portocarrero, Jorge Rigol, Jose Mijares and Servando Cabrera, together with artworks by Santiago Rodriguez Olazabal, Angel Ramirez, Eduardo Ponjuan, Ibrahim Miranda, Luis Enrique Camejo, Cirenaica Moreira, Lidzie Alvisa, Aimee Garcia, Carlos Montes de Oca, Francisco Nuñez, Alejandro Campins, Michel Perez (Pollo) and Niels Reyes.
The one and the Many… gathers works from different generations of Cuban artists that stand for the representative rich creation of the island nation’s plastic arts. Planned by the Excelencias Cultural Space and Genesis Art Galleries, the exposition was also sponsored by Havana Club.
Genesis Art Galleries promotes and sells Cuban art both on the island nation and overseas. This time around, it presented at the ArcoMadrid Pavilion 10 projects hailing from La Acacia Gallery (artworks by Manuel Mendive, Eduardo Roca (Choco) and Nelson Dominguez), and Servando Gallery, featuring pieces by Raul Cordero and Lazaro Saavedra.
