The 21st Romerías de Mayo International Festival can become a world forum for the artistic youths of every country to gather in Holguín province under the premise to respect and defend cultural diversity.
With a confirmed attendance of 25 countries from Latin America and Europe, the meeting will take place from May 2 to 8 and will be an artistic epicenter for young intellectuals and creators who would like to debate and to dialogue about plurality in one of the greatest celebrations of the Cuban culture.
Ana Teresa Carbonell, events manager of the Tourism Agency Paradiso SA, highlighted that among the most important activities in the event, will be the traditional ascension of the Axe of Holguín towards Loma de la Cruz hill, the pilgrimage to the Casa Consistorial and the Siembra del Árbol de la Amistad (The Sewing of the Friendship Tree).
She also expressed that there will be several debates about the universal character of the regional cultures which will become homage to Latin America diverse founder fathers.
The Romerías de Mayo is annually called by the Hermanos Saíz Cultural Association, and it is also a platform for great concerts, performances, simultaneous arts exhibits, workshops, public dances and socio-cultural reflection sessions in the Interactive Social Forum.
To make possible for the event to consolidate as the World Festival of the Artistic Youths, the organizing committee expressed the meeting aspirations to commit with “the confrontation need of the youngest promotions and the urgency to offer a most exact vision of what we think and which our place in the world, seen not only from a geographic point of view but from that of the people who create and work in the artistic field in the most diverse regions, even for the lack of recognition and scarce promotion in the communication ”.
Events like the Premio Memoria Nuestra, dedicated to the regional cultures universes and to the experiences of the artistic communitarian intervention will be also celebrated during the five days the festival will last.
