Madrid.- Julieta, the most recent film by Pedro Almodovar, is one of the three films selected to represent Spain in the next edition of the Oscars, the national cinema academy announced today.
El Olivo (The Olive), by Iciar Bollain, and La Novia (The Bride), by Paula Ortiz, complete the short list of candidates to compete in the category of best film in a non-English language and the chosen film will be announced on September 7.
The members of the Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences chose in the first voting round three of 42 feature films premiered between November 1, 2005 and September 30, 2016, as stipulated by the regulation of Hollywood's awards.
The film by Almodovar, in which Emma Suarez and Adriana Ugarte share the main role, tells the story of a woman that is suffering a destructive absence in silence.
The edition 89 of the US Academy Awards will be held on February 26, 2017.
