Cuban Ballet Students to Perform at Chicago's Art Center

Los Angeles, USA.- Students from the "Fernando Alonso" Cuban National Ballet School will dance on July 1 in the U.S. city of Chicago, American choreographer and artistic director Pedro Ruiz confirmed recently. The beginners will perform a program combined with classical and neoclassical dances at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts, located in Chicago, the third city with the largest number of inhabitants in the United States, behind New York and Los Angeles.

The show includes dances from the great classical tradition such as "El corsario" (The Corsair), "El mercader y la esclava" (The Merchant and the slave), and "Cascanueces" (Nutcracker), as well as two choreographies by Ruiz: "Tres estados del alma" (Three States of Soul) and "Lugar de verano" (Summer Place), recently created in the Caribbean island for an elite group of students.

Both dances are musicalized by awarded Cuban pianist Frank Fernandez, and were premiered during the 12th Biennial of Havana.

During next week, the director of the Cuban National Ballet School, Ramona de Saa, and Professor Yuneisy Rodriguez, will also be responsible for master classes, lectures and essays.
