The former Matarazzohospital, acquired nearly three years ago by textile group Allard and re-baptized Cidade Marazzo, will be hosting from September 6 to October 1, a collective display entitled “Made by Brazilians”. Despite the title, the curatorship by Marc Pottier and SimonWatson gathers Brazilian artists, such as Rochelle Costi, Janaína Tschäpe, Cildo Meireles and Héctor Zamora; and foreigners like Ai Weiwei, Yoko Ono, Cindy Sherman and Xu Bing. The exhibit proposal, which takes place within the framework of São Paulo Biennale, targets the anthropographical character and diversity of Brazilian culture.
Although it is going to be based in a space that isn’t part of the show, it will be an opportunity to recall the legacy of artist Geraldo de Barros (1923 – 1998) in terms of the Brazilian furniture design. Organized by Casa Vogue, Cidade Matarazzo’s VIP hall will be showcasing iconic pieces of furniture created by the Brazilian artist, who was one of the most remarkable artists of the country, as well as a prolific furniture designer since 1964.
Cidade Matarazzo is located in the region of Cerquei César, São Paulo.
