The Ministry of Culture, Education and University Regulation calls to the 4th Cidade da Cultura Meeting of New Artists (IV Encontro de Artistas Novos Cidade da Cultura), in which seventy emerging creators are going to have the opportunity to shed light on their work and debate on contemporary art with other cultural agents throughout the four-day event.
Aimed at young artists who were born between 1979 and 1996, the 4th Meeting of New Artists is slated for September 9 - 12 and the applicants can be students or Fine Arts graduates, as well as those people that are proven to have an artistic project or career. As new element for this edition, twenty out of the seventy places will be open for artists older than 35 so as to establish a dialogue among artists from different generations as part of an open creative process.
The Meeting of New Artists comes back to Gaiás with Rafael Doctor, an acclaimed and respectable name in the world of contemporary art, in an effort to support and promote his creative work and share experiences by following two strategic guidelines established by the ministry of Xesús Vázquez: betting on education and knowledge as the cores of progress and welfare.
Beyond favoring the coexistence of Galician artists and representatives from other regions, the Meeting will foster the debate on the present condition of contemporary art and provide a space to meet and share ideas among artists and other agents of the sector, such as art critics and curators.
So the participants will get in touch with other styles and artistic production processes by means of series of lectures given by prestigious artists from national and international contemporary art circuits, such as Lois Patiño, Din Matamoro, José Manuel Ballester and Dora García.
Along with the artists, the attendees will meet observers that are interested in backing up these new creators and getting up to date on emerging artists and their artistic projects. Javier Díaz-Guardiola, Guillermo Espinosa and Semíramis González are the art critics or curators who will stand as ‘art followers' in this event.
Intervention at Hejduk Towers
Galicia’s Cidade da Cultura opens the possibility for some of the participating artists to be chosen to carry out an artistic intervention at Hejduk Towers. The winner of the first call was collective project ‘Nowhere (En ningún lugar)', by Juan Cañamero, Iago Eireos, Miguel Ángel Moreno Carretero, Ana Esteve Reig, Alejandro Ramírez Ariza and Pablo Martínez Muñiz, curated by Carlos Delgado Mayordomo, five interventions to rethink the meaning of Hejduk Towers.
This Cidade da Cultura’s initiative bets on emerging talent at Gaiás, providing non-conventional exhibition space so they can give free rein to creativeness.
Half of the Places for Galician Artists
The 4th Meeting of New Artists offers seventy places, 50 percent of which will be targeting applicants who were born or live in Galicia and the other half goes to international or local artists.
Obtaining a place entails registration, full board stay at Monte del Gozo complex, Santiago de Compostela, Monday September 8 – Friday September 12 and daily transfer from Monte del Gozo to Cidade da Cultura.
The applicants must have been born between 1979 and 1996 and they shouldn’t have participated in the three previous editions.
Applications through July 4.
