CA2M is organizing Black Box/White Cube (Caja Negra/Cubo Blanco), a series of performances, dance and theater, in which performance is taken as a discipline that grows and goes beyond traditional bounds not only in terms of practices, but the institutions and conventional exhibition spaces for artistic practices. The sessions are articulated into three blocks: language acts, political body and the performance characteristic of things.
The program teed off on Thursday March 27 at 20:00 hours with Itziar Okariz. By reading Virginia Wolf’s text, VW Chapter 2, the artist proposed us not only to think about language, but to experiment with its meanings. Afterwards, Mette Edvardsen put on the map Black (2011) in which, by means of the language, the artist plays with the creation of a new world within the blackness of the theater box.
On Sunday March 30, Tamara Kuselman and Guillem Mont will shed light on their works with reflections on the language, followed by Jorge Dutor with The microphones (Los microfonos) 2013. These last works use language as a material and musical element, by combining it with time, space and action.
As for the politic body idea, Aimar Perez Gali will be presenting on Thursday April 3 Sweating the discourse (Sudando el discurso), a piece that questions the subaltern role played by dancers in the history of dance. It will be followed by Black Tulip, a platform that temporarily supports an artist or a group of artists under an anonymous position.
An Open Space is scheduled to take place on Saturday April 5, 12:00 - 19:00 hours, at Sala Pradillo, organized by the PAM of the theater and entitled Black Box/White Cube? Think about the Outskirts (¿Caja negra/Cubo blanco? Pensar en la periferia), where performance and performativity matters are going to be debated.
Regarding to the reflection on the performativity of things, artist Eva Meyer-Keller is going to stage Death Is Certain (2002), on Sunday April 6. Tere Recarens will come next with performance lecture 19-3-2014, a work outlined as documentation process of life.
On Thursday April 10, as the second part of the politic body, Paz Rojo, is set to display Dancismo (2014), a visual montage with the collaboration of Emilio Tomé. It will be followed by Mårten Spångberg, an artist, choreographer and theorist whose work tackles the role played by the body in terms of the neoliberal economy.
Sunday April 13 will be up to Ruben Grilo and Spiros Hadjidjanos. Their works target the world of objects. The final stage will be marked by the work of Norberto Llopis, who has developed for years an intense production related to the performativity of things.
