PINTA NY: From November 10 to 13

One of the most long-awaited events for gallery owners and Latin American art collectors, PINTA NY, celebrates in 2011 its fifth anniversary. From November 10 to 13, the show opens its doors to the public in its new venue, which can take in fifty exhibiting halls and will receive art projects from the United States, Latin America and Europe.

PINTA NY groups together for the fifth time great maestros of modern Latin American art, making emphasis in geometric abstraction and concrete art. This time, the event proposes a deeper look into the conceptual art of the 1970s and 80s: a movement curators and specialists are currently rereading at length and that has drawn the attention of museums and private collectors in the last few years. Likewise, projects by younger generations have a space in the fair.

On top of the list of participating nations is the United States with 17 galleries from New York, Miami, San Antonio, among other cities.  The Brazilian guests will have a significant representation with five spaces from Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte, as well as two individual works that will be presented as part of art projects curated by Jacopo Crivelli Visconti. From Brazil is also the guest artist at this year’s edition: Antonio Manuel (1947), one of the major creators of his country from the 1960s and 70s. For the first time, the Brazilian Agency of Commerce and Promotion (APEX) will support the participation of galleries from the South American country in PINTA. Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Peru and Venezuela will be also widely represented at this edition.

The section of commissioned projects, this time in the hands of versatile Italian critic and curator, Jacopo Crivelli Visconti –who has been a curator for the Biennial de Sao Paulo Foundation and the Fair of Contemporary Art, Volta (Basle, Switzerland), and has been jury member in several international contests– will present works by Claudio Perna (Venezuela; Henrique Faria Fine Art, New York), Eder Santos (Celma Albuquerque, Belo Horizonte, Brazil), Faivovich & Goldberg (Cosmocosa, Buenos Aires), Fernanda Gomes (Brazil; Graça Brandão Gallery, Lisbon), Ivan Candeo (Oficina Uno, Caracas, Venezuela), Jonathan Hernandez (Mexico; Nara Roesler Gallery, Sao Paulo), Lygia Pape (Brazil; Graça Brandão Gallery, Lisbon), Patricio Larrambebere (Argentina; Progetti, Rio de Janeiro) and Romulo Aguerre (Uruguay; Sammer Gallery, Miami).

The Program of Museum Acquisitions, first launched in 2007, continues this year featuring The Bronx Museum of the Arts, New York; Newark Museum, New Jersey; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

AxE Newsusually covers the events of many of the galleries attending PINTA NY, among them La Acacia Gallery and Habana Gallery (Havana), Espacio Minimo (Madrid), Gary Nader Fine Arty Pan American Art Projects (Miami), Y Gallery (New York) and Ginocchio Gallery (Mexico D.F.), and others.
