Arguedas Andahuaylas Cultural Association (ACUAA) and “Jose Maria Arguedas” National University, call the first national contest “Los rios profundos de Arguedas” on outdoor fast painting, paying tribute to the first centenary of the distinguished writer’s birthday.
The competition’s goal is portraying, through color, the life face of deep rivers in Andahuaylas. The call is aimed at Peruvian and foreign artists living in the country who can travel to the event’s location.
The call sets categories for young and not-so-young authors. The theme is related to urban and rural landscapes, and the daily life of the local dweller.
The techniques and styles can vary: oil painting, acrylics or mixed, exhibited on white stretchers and rigid supports. The attendees shall take care of the landscape concept in art; and they’ll carry the necessary material to be used in the work (portable easels, oils, paint thinners, etc.)
The organizers have forbidden the use of prints, photos and other resources changing the event’s goals, and they’ll have the right to reject or disqualify elements not included in the bases.
Artists interested must get in touch (through 12 hours before June 30) with “Jose Maria Arguedas” National University, sited in Jr Guilermo Caceres, Tresierra no. 550, Andahuaylas-Apurimac-Peru, or kusisonqo_arte@hotmail.com; arguedascentenario@hotmail.com
The winner will receive the prize on July 01, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. during a special awarding ceremony at the consistorial hall of the local municipality. Competing artists shall be committed to preserving and taking care of the environment.
The finest 60 works will be exhibited in different local and national spaces as part of travelling exhibitions, in 2011, and that’s the reason why artists shall agree to give their works. After the exhibition year, the works will be given back to authors. Along with the economic prizes, the “Jose Maria Arguedas Altamirano” special distinction will be awarded to four masters.
