ArPa: The 2024 edition has come to an end, but the connections we created remain

In our third edition, held between June 26th and 30th, 2024, the ArPa Art Fair consolidated its unique identity in the visual arts market and broke an attendance record, totaling 13,500 visitors.The event, which marked the inauguration of Mercado Pago Hall at Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu, offered a carefully curated program, providing a deep immersion in contemporary art.

During the five-day event, our visitors were able to appreciate the production of artists from galleries from different Brazilian states and countries such as Argentina, Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Norway and Portugal, with new projects specially designed for the fair. Our careful curation ensured a selection of works that reflect the diversity and quality of contemporary artistic production.

Awards

Selo Mandacaru - ArPa Award

On Thursday, June 27th, the artist Aline Motta, represented by Mitre Galeria, was awarded the Selo Mandacaru - ArPa Award, delivered by Camilla Barella, general director of the fair, and Beth da Matta, executive manager of the Mandacaru Project.

Aline Motta's (Niterói, 1974) practice combines photography, video, installation, performance and collage to reconfigure Afro-Atlantic memories and construct new narratives.

Best Booth Award

On Saturday, June 29, Albuquerque Contemporânea was awarded the Best Booth 2024 Award, for its project around the production of Rochelle Costi. The choice was made by a jury of renowned curators: Aram Moshayedi (Hammer Museum), José Esparza Chong Cuy (Storefront for Art and Architecture), Rosario Güiraldes (Walker Art Center) and Stuart Comer (MoMA). The galleries Almeida & Dale, with a solo show by Mario Ishikawa, and Sendros, with Cervio Martini, also received deserved honorable mentions.

Base Sector

In the 3rd edition of ArPa, Base Sector, curated by Ana Carolina Ralston and presented by MOS, brought to the public the group exhibition Every living being is the Earth of others, an invitation to reflect on the relationship between the body and the environment, society and collectivity.

Complementing the exhibition, a series of talks deepened the notions of the body and encouraged dialogue and the exchange of ideas. The program included debates on the Venice Biennale with Beatriz Milhazes, the art of dressing with André Namitala and Ayrson Heráclito, stories of humanity with Raquel Arnaud and Frida Baranek, painting as an object with Renato Rios and Laura Vinci, art as a project of society with Paulo Bruscky and Jacopo Crivelli, the continuity of life with Bu'u Kennedy, Lia Chaia, Mônica Ventura and Lucas Menezes, wild nature with Advânio Lessa and Siron Franco, and metamorphoses with Lídia Lisbôa and Mariana Palma.

Arte em Campo Sector

In the performance Eclosion of a dream, a fantasy, presented on June 29th as part of the Arte em Campo sector, Igi Lola Ayedun (HOA) brought to the public the results of her research, developed over six years, which included immersions in Morocco, Egypt and Palestine, where she investigated ancient materials manipulation technologies in Berber tanneries, following the Blue route. The performance is based on the African influence on technology and highlights the energetic routes present in materials such as indigo, silk, lapis lazuli and cobalt, understood not only as supports, but as transmission paths.
