“A Pegada Pop” Showcases Works of 23 Outstanding International Artists at Carbono Gallery

The debate on the values of modernity and the critic to the evolutionism of its styles began with Pop Art, when the limits among languages were deleted and art got contaminated with everyday elements, industry and information. We could say that Pop opens the doors of the post-modernism or what we usually describe as contemporary. 

Therefore, it is a movement of capital breaking-off with modern regimes and, as such, it has had an impact throughout the history of art. Permanent symptoms of Pop are retaken in different generations and they seem to constantly guide the work of

 artists in every new society. 

“A pegada pop” is aimed at mapping the influence of North American Pop in contemporary art, by means of the production of different artists. However, that “punch (pegada)”, just as the term suggests, doesn’t follow the strict genealogy of the 1960’s movement, but it marks certain patterns that have stood out throughout the history, such as the appropriation of the empiric world, the banality of high society and commercial languages. The artists that participate in the exhibit, who represent generations from the 1960s to date, show that this “punch”, instead of having disappeared in the time when the movement was originated, continues among us and is vigorous.

Furthermore, the multiplicity was always a reinvigorated and stimulated “genre” in the pop universe, not only for its relation with the serialized production and the standard way of the industry, but for avoiding the anachronistic and romantic attitude that insisted in the search for an eternal and ideal art. Therefore, the display asserts the validity and permanence of a historic moment, a phenomenon that doesn’t stop discussing, even nowadays, the function and fetish of the artistic object.
