Mendes Wood DM: Art Basel Hong Kong 2025

Mendes Wood DM is pleased to return to Art Basel Hong Kong 2025 this March. The gallery’s presentation connects artistic movements transnationally, from currents of abstraction in Brazil to metaphysical painting in Italy and Mono-ha in Japan.

The booth will exhibit a new painting on wood by Guglielmo Castelli (b. 1987, Turin, Italy) considering relationships between chinoiserie and scenography; a large, vivid painting by Paulo Monteiro (b. 1961, São Paulo, Brazil) in dialogue with his minute, bronze sculptures; works from Solange Pessoa’s (b. 1961, Ferros, Brazil) Frugívoros series, following her exhibition at the Kunsthaus Bregenz; a floral composition by Paulo Nimer Pjota (b. 1988, São José do Rio Preto, Brazil) in tempera, oil, and acrylic paint; and a suite of new works by Marcos Siqueira (b. 1989, Betim, Brazil) from a recent residency in New York. Works by neo-avant garde artist Heidi Bucher (1926-1993, Winterthur, Switzerland) offer an architectural lens to the booth, shown following the artist’s exhibitions at Red Brick in Beijing, and MCAD in Manila, alongside textured paintings by the celebrated Amadeo Luciano Lorenzato (1900-1995, Belo Horizonte, Brazil).

In complement, the presentation includes works by Sonia Gomes (b. 1948, Caetanópolis, Brazil), Paula Siebra (b. 1998, Fortaleza, Brazil), Kishio Suga (b. 1944, Morioka, Japan), Leah Ke Yi Zheng (b. 1988, Wuyishan, China), and Bendt Eyckermans (b. 1994, Antwerp, Belgium).
