Nader Sculpture Park is delighted to announce the addition of the iconic installation "Cubo Azul" by renowned Cuban artist Rachel Valdés. This interactive artwork will be available to the public starting January 24th, 2025.
Originally unveiled at the XII Havana Biennial in 2015, "Cubo Azul" is a 3-meter cubic structure composed of laminated blue glass and mirrors, supported by a stainless-steel and marine board base. The installation invites viewers to step inside and observe the surroundings through its blue glass panels, offering a sensory experience that alters the perception of space and reality.
Rachel Valdés, a graduate of the National Academy of Fine Arts San Alejandro in Havana, has gained international acclaim for her large-scale installations exploring perception, light, and color. Her work has been showcased in cities such as New York, Madrid, and Venice, solidifying her status as a prominent figure in contemporary art.
"As with most of my sculptural work, 'Cubo Azul' aims to intervene in spaces using geometric elements to create optical illusions that question the boundaries between the material and immaterial worlds. This piece invites viewers to reflect on how we perceive reality and interact with our environment," said Valdés.
Gary Nader, founder of the Nader Sculpture Park, highlighted the significance of the artwork: “The arrival of 'Cubo Azul' at the park represents a milestone for us. Rachel Valdés is not only one of the most significant voices in contemporary art, but her ability to transform spaces and challenge perception deeply aligns with our vision of what art can achieve. This installation not only enhances the park but also invites our visitors to immerse themselves in a unique and transformative experience.”
The addition of "Cubo Azul" to Nader Sculpture Park offers a unique opportunity for Miami visitors to experience an artwork that blends art with audience interaction, encouraging reflection on our relationship with space and reality.
