Opening "Fantasías disidentes; Chile-México (1978-1987)"

Memoria participates again in PhotoEspaña Festival with a new project dedicated to gender activism in The Latin American continent.

An ancestral and anthropological glance to gender identity in Latin America focused at the end of the 70s and 80s, where fantasy operates as a vehicle of resistance against the normativity of the established system and surveillance. Mexico and Chile through the lenses of Graciela Iturbide (Ciudad de México, 1942 -), Yolanda Andrade (Villahermosa, México, 1950 -), Paz Errázuriz (Santiago de Chile, 1944 -), accompanied by the illustrations of the star and activist Terry Holiday (Ciudad de México, 1955 -).

The visual essays of these artists provide a new contemporary look at the construction of the gender activism that resonates in the resilient echo of La Manzana de Adán (Errázuriz), and Juchitán – Muxes (Iturbide) series as well as in Terry Holiday & Yolanda Andrade mirror.

Memoria gathers forces to the review of this constellation of artistic activisms that allow establishing new readings on this critical period in contemporary art and Latin American visual culture as well as to reference projects such as Radical Women: Latin American Art, 1960-1985 from the Hammer Museum (UCLA) in USA held in 2017.
