RMFAB. Miradas de Mujeres. Isabelle de Borchgrave X Frida Kahlo

Miradas de Mujeres (Women’s Gaze) is an exhibition that highlights the view of Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave on Frida Kahlo. Miradas de Mujeres honours a dialogue between two women who have never met – one being born shortly before the death of the other – but who nevertheless share their love of fabric, patterns and colours; a women's perspective on the artist’s role in society. 

Isabelle de Borchgrave took almost three years to create Miradas de Mujeres, a titanic work painted by hand. By using more than 4 kilometers of paper and cardboard she created dresses, carpets, furniture, trees and other elements recreating the unique universe of Frida Kahlo and her iconic house, the Casa Azul (The Blue House). 

Thanks to Miradas de Mujeres, visitors will have the opportunity to stroll through the living room, the workshop, the kitchen, the dressing room or the garden; promising a unique, trompe l'oeil experience into the world of Frida Kahlo.Far from the image of suffering and pain, linked to the disability of the Mexican icon, Isabelle de Borchgrave focuses here, through colour, on the joy of living of the artist who managed to transcend the hardships of her life in her role as a woman, artist, and cultural icon.

The exhibition invites the public to dive into the joyful universe entirely made of paper of Isabelle de Borchgrave and to be inspired by the generosity of this contemporary artist whose creative practice remains resolutely incomparable.
