ARCOmadrid's 40 (+1) Anniversary stood out for the quality of the attending galleries and the revival of the market

ARCOmadrid, which once again enjoyed the commitment of the Royal Family with Queen Letizia presiding its inauguration last February 24th, surpassed an estimated 75,000 visitors in total. The event's professional days also saw the mobilisation of around 30,000 professionals from around the world. 

This commemorative edition, conceived as a tribute to the galleries of the fair, included a total of 185 galleries from 30 countries. The eagerly awaited professional encounter before the works exuded positive energy throughout ARCOmadrid. Galleries such as Arróniz -Mexico City-; Elba Benítez -Madrid-; Horrach Moya -Palma de Mallorca-; José de la Mano -Madrid-; Krinzinger -Vienna-; Levy-Hamburg-; Nächst St. Stephan Rosemarie Schwarzwälder -Vienna-; Neugerriemschneider -Berlin-; Nueveochenta -Bogotá-; Patricia Ready -Santiago de Chile-; Sabrina Amrani -Madrid-; and Thaddaeus Ropac -Paris-, among many others, have confirmed the high standards of both sales and artistic quality at the fair.

Acquisitions at ARCOmadrid 2022

Following the first days dedicated exclusively to professionals, ARCOmadrid has recorded considerable institutional and corporate acquisitions, including those made by Fundación ARCO; Museo Reina Sofía; Comunidad de Madrid; Madrid City Council; TBA21 Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary; Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson; Fundación Helga de Alvear; Fundación María José Jove, la Colección Mariano Yera and DKV Seguros, among others (access these acquisitions).

Awards at ARCOmadrid

National and international institutions and companies share their support and acknowledgement of the artistic creation at ARCOmadrid by awarding different prizes. Cervezas Alhambra awarded the sixth edition of the Cervezas Alhambra Award for Emerging Art to the artist Laia Estruch Mata, for her work 'Zócalo', chosen by an international jury of experts from among the finalists.

Again this year, illycaffè continued its support of young emerging artists present at ARCOmadrid through the XV illy SustainArt Award, granted on this occasion to the Venezuelan artist Ana Navas, from the Sperling gallery.

On its XV edition, the ARCO-BEEP AWARD for Electronic Art went to ´Echo`, a work by Lúa Coderch, Julia Múgica, Lluís Nacenta and Iván Paz, presented by Galería àngels barcelona.

On this occasion, Inma Álvarez-Laviada, from the Luis Adelantado gallery, was distinguished with the sixth Pilar Forcada ART Situacions Award. 

Additionally, the Argentine gallery Rolf Art, with works by Sara Facio; Marcelo Brodsky and Andre´s Denegri, was the winner of the Lexus Award for the Best Stand and artistic content at ARCOmadrid 2022.

On its first edition, the Martin Miller's Gin Award for the best Solo/Duo Stand in the General Programme was granted to the project by the artist Marta Palau displayed in the Walden gallery, from Buenos Aires. 

For its part, the East Contemporary gallery, from Milan, was the winner of the VIII Opening by Allianz Award. This award distinguishes the best stand of the section with the reimbursement of the cost of their space at ARCOmadrid 2022. 

ARCOmadrid 2023 

The Organisation is already working on the 42nd edition of ARCOmadrid to be held from February 22nd to 26th, 2023 with the Mediterranean as its core project. The programme, `The Mediterranean: A Round Sea´, curated by Marina Fokidis, with the advice of Bouchra Khalili and Hila Peleg, will revolve around the art scenes of the countries surrounding it, from south to north and coast to coast.
