Colombia is the guest country of honour at ARCOmadrid 2015, which will be held from February 25 to March 1. For this reason, the Government of Colombia has prepared the ArcoColombia project, an extensive exhibitions and activities program, which will constitute a cultural landing in Madrid and will announce the development of the contemporary Colombian art.
ArcoColombia starts on February 19 and extends its activities until April. It is a total of 50 acts, including 20 exhibitions covering more than four generations of Colombian artists in museums and art centers in the capital.
The program is divided into two sections: Focus Colombia y Colombia en Madrid. Focus Colombia is coordinated by Colombian curators María Wills Londoño and Jaime Ceron Silva who include exhibitions of artists with renowned professional career such as Antonio Caro, José Antonio Suárez, Miguel Angel Rojas and Oscar Muñoz and emerging artists like Carlos Bonil, Felipe Arturo, Adrián Gaitán, Milena Bonilla and Adriana Salazar.
Colombia in Madrid is an initiative of the Colombia Embassy to Spain in which exhibitions of prominent artists within the Colombian contemporary art bring together. They include Doris Salcedo, Oscar Murillo and María José Arjona. Also, the La Lechuga exhibition, Custodia de la Iglesia de San Ignacio (collection of the Bank of the Republic of Colombia) and the work has been invited to the Prado Museum.
To facilitate visits to exhibitions, between February 23 and March 10, the Embassy of Colombia to Spain will offer a free bus service that will tour museums and art centers hosting Colombian the art exhibitions program each day.
