International Book Fair in Venezuela to focus on the Caribbean

The 11th edition of the International Book Fair in Venezuela (Filven 2015) to be held from March 12 to 22 in Caracas and with Puerto Rico as a guest country is going for a major knowledge about the Caribbean, the event organizers asserted.

During statements to the Correo del Orinoco digital newspaper, President of the Book National Center Christian Valles highlighted that the public will have the opportunity to enjoy from authors and great literature of this island.

“We need to see the façade of the Caribbean Valles added. About this special feature at Filven 2015, President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro said one year ago that this homage to Puerto Rico is aimed at supporting “the approval related to the Community of Latin American and Caribbean Sates (CELAC, after its initial in Spanish) in favor of a decolonization process in that island”

In that sense, Nicolas Maduro noted that “the decolonization we must to foster the most is that related to culture, the spirit, that of the people’s minds”. On his part, Valles stressed that Filven 2015 will deepen into knowledge about the “genuine Puerto Rico.” The Fair will allow us to get into the fraternity implying this life commitment in favor of the union of all the peoples, recognizing Puerto Rico as Latin-American and Caribbean country. It is our, he said”.

Valles also noted that the new call for this literary encounter plans to provide a larger number of foreign Publishing Companies due to agreements established by the Venezuelan State.

Among the foreign participants we should highlight the Contrabando collection, of Spain, which as a result of an alliance with small and medium collections will bring books published by eight Publishing Houses.

Also, the Kalandraka Publishing House of Spain will participate for the first time and will offer books for children in Venezuela.

This year, the Fair will carry out some 400 activities including books launching, forums, conversations, workshops and events for children, mostly at opened spaces of the Teresa Carreño Theater, the Experimental National University for Arts (Unearte, after its initials in Spanish) and the plaza de Los Museos or the Museums square, among others.

This edition will also pay tribute to Venezuelan creator Cesar Rengifo who is remembered as one of the most outstanding artists in the 20th century.

Filven was promoted by the deceased President Hugo Chavez who always considered as crucial the book promotion, the creation and writing. In 2014, Filven turned the cultural event with major participation of locals in Venezuela, and it broke the visitors’ record with a number of 240 thousands people in Caracas.
