The Caguayo Foundation for Applied Arts and Monumental is very active in the 500 years of the town of Santiago de Cuba. The prominent plastic artist, Alberto Lescay Merencio from Santiago, founder and manager of the institution for twenty years, said for the CND digital newsletter of the Excellencies Group: "We are working on several actions for the 500 years, one of which is the rescue of the Prado of the sculptures, which is a project of the eighties that consists of a collection of international environmental sculptures and is considered the most important in Cuba. After Hurricane Sandy the whole works were much deteriorated almost completely and assume their restoration, we have restored more than eighty percent."

"Half a millennium, considered the monumental project of Caguayo Foundation that we have promised to conclude, it is an investigation by authorized persons, is a multidisciplinary team that addresses the different themes of artistic and literary culture with the aim of saving this historical memory of great value, in addition to substantiate why Santiago de Cuba is a cultural city."
