The Private collection of Ginette and Alain Lesieutre

Sotheby's and Piasa are pleased to present this exceptional auction of the private collection of Ginette and Alain Lesieutre.

Alain Lesieutre was among the pioneers of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco markets. His 1974 book The Spirit and Splendour of Art Deco helped to write the history of these collecting categories and contributed to the rediscovery of numerous artists.

The collection that Lesieutre kept in his Parisian home with his wife Ginette is dedicated to some of the most important artists of their respective periods: Rembrandt Bugatti, Gustav Miklos, Jules Dalou and Antoine-Louis Barye.

The modern art section of the sale also features leading names from the Nabi movement – Paul Sérusier, Emile Bernard and Maurice Denis – together with an important group of gouaches by Léonard Foujita from 1917 and 1918.
