COULT OF COULOUR
Creating an expressive minimalist image is one of the greatest challenges of all. Every single parameter depicted must be perfectly executed, there is no room to hide inadequacies.
In Vera Klimentyeva's maximally reduced series "Colour Cult", the focus is on the material and its diverse levels of meaning. The eleven dyptiches consist of icon boards, each with a monochrome colour and gold surface.
The pigments used, cinnabar, crimson, black 2.0, white lead, malachite, red ochre, Egyptian blue, lapis lazuli, auric pigment, lime tuff and purpurissum, are complemented by the eleven shades of gold, ducat gold, caplain gold, red gold, ducat antique gold, moon gold, citron gold, rose sable gold, green gold, white gold, American colour and platinum.
