Cuban Guitar Group to Perform in Colombia

Havana, Cuba.-The Isaac Nicola orchestra of Las Tunas will represent Cuba at the First International Guitar Festival in Cali, Colombia, to be held on July 25-29.

We are privileged that during the event we will be accompanied by maestro  Leo Brouwer, who will also give lectures, Ramon Carlos Leyva, director of the group, told Semanario 26 of Las Tunas.

The young director of the group also said that it will perform pieces from a repertoire of national authors, such as Ernesto Lecuona, Ignacio Cervantes, Luis Aguirre and Brouwer himself.

Leyva added that the group will play two compositions from the international repertoire: the Brondenburgo Concert Number Two, by Sebastian Bach, and the William Tell Overture by Rossini.

The festival is sponsored by the Higher Art School Foundation and the Ministry of Culture of Cali, as well as the embassies of Cuba and Venezuela in Bogotá.

The members of the Isaac Nicola, a group founded 18 years ago, are graduates of El Cucalambe Vocational School of Art of Las Tunas.

For several years, this group has hosted national guitar festivals.
