FAAP Artistic Residency welcomes artists from the 32nd Bienal de São Paulo

As part of the program “FAAP Artistic Residency,” eight artists participating in the 32nd Bienal will be residing in São Paulo in order to develop new studies and projects that will be presented at the Bienal Pavilion in September, 2016. Created in 2006 on the occasion of the 27th Bienal and renovated for each new exhibition, over the years, this partnership between the Bienal de São Paulo Foundation and the FAAP Artistic Residency has received 41 artists for the event based at Edifício Lutetia, located in downtown São Paulo.

Titled Incerteza viva – [Live Uncertainty], the 32nd Bienal de São Paulo focuses on notions of “uncertainty” and “entropy” to reflect on the current conditions of life and the strategies offered by contemporary art to harbor and inhabit uncertainties. Curated by Jochen Volz along with co-curators Gabi Ngcobo (South Africa), Júlia Rebouças (Brazil), Lars Bang Larsen (Denmark) and Sofía Olascoaga (Mexico), the 32nd Bienal will be held from September 10 to December 12, 2016 at the Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion, featuring work by roughly 90 artists and collectives from all over the world.

Carla Filipe (Portugal), Carolina Caycedo (Colombia), Dineo Bopape (South Africa), Em’kal Eyongakpa (Cameroon), Iza Tarasewicz (Poland), Nomeda and Gediminas Urbonas (Lithuania), Pia Lindman (Finland) and Rita Ponce de León (Peru) are the artists from the 32nd edition who will be participating in the program between March and December of 2016. During their residency in São Paulo, the artists will also take part in such activities as studio visits and lectures open to the public.

Originally modeled after the Cité des Arts in Paris, the FAAP Artistic Residency was installed inside Edifício Lutetia with ten studios designated for this public, so they can develop their artistic projects and exchange experience and knowledge with one another, the city, the art community and also the college's students and faculty.
