ARCOmadrid Director requests a super-reduced VAT rate in Art

Carlos Urroz, director of the international fair of contemporary art ARCOMadrid has ensured that " it would be desirable a tax the a super-reduced VAT rate in art, the same way it has applied to flowers and books”.

In statements prior to participate in a talk held in Salamanca about art collecting, Urroz has claimed once again a lower VAT rate compared to current rate, which sum of money is broken down into 10 per cent for artists and 21 per cent for works owned by galleries.

"It would be desirable a super reduced VAT rate to facilitate art purchases, which it would also help the cultural life of this country", Carlos Urroz added.

At the time of looking for reasons justifying the fact of keeping these different taxes for artists and galleries, ArcoMadrid director has responded: "Ask the politicians, but it is clear that it would be desirable making this rate fell, as it has happened in France".

Urroz participated in the talk "Everything you wanted to know about collecting art and never dared to ask, 10 keys to start the contemporary art purchase" at the DA2 Centre Art in Salamanca, organized by the Arco Foundation. Alicia Ventura, the coordinator of the DKV arteria proyecto and curator of the DKV collection as well as  María Jesús Díez, coordinator of the contemporary art center of Salamanca also participated.

In addition, the ArcoMadrid director has shown optimism before the next international fair of contemporary art, 2015, which offers "good feelings", with Colombia, the guest nation and a "significant presence of Latin American galleries and artists".

"It will be a fair of discoveries of many foreign galleries that will bring its latest works," Carlos Urroz has announced before the imminent opening of ARCOmadrid.
