Beginning April 14, Madrid’s ARANAPOVEDA will present Other Evil Flowers –commissioned by Oscar Alonso Molina- by Portuguese artist Susanne Themlitz and Spain’s Felipe Ortega-Regalado.
For both artists, drawing is a basic part of their creation since it allows them to configure a space and scour the ornament, the limits of the figuration or the construction of narrations based on small stories.
For this exhibit, the curator has handpicked works from a number of quite recent series that share a passion for dreamscapes and move for the first time into a dialogue within the framework of the second edition of the A Tres Bandas Festival. According to Oscar Alonso Molina, both artists also agree “in the heated treatment of nature and vegetal order, the mushrooms and geometry, flowers and landscapes, (…) which reflect an organic backdrop construed far beyond the living things, the body or passions.”
The work of Susanne Themlitz (Lisbon, 1968) has been exposed in recent years –both individually and collectively- in different museums and galleries across Europe, the Americas and Asia. Expositions at the Calouste Gulbekian Foundation (Lisbon), the Berardo Museum (Lisbon) and the Museum of Fine Arts of Santander have displayed her work. Furthermore, she had attended different editions of the ARCO, ArtRio, Arte Lisboa, Foro Sur, Loop and JustMAD fairs.
Felipe Ortega Regalado (Caceres, 1972) is quite focused on drawing and video. He has won the latest editions of the Gregorio Prieto Contest, has been a finalist at the Centenera Jaraba Prize and was chosen for the grand finale in MACBA. He recently attended Loop, India ArtFAir, Video Lima and Forosur, among other events.
The exhibition will remain open thru May 31, 2012.
