Rooms of their own

Madrid: Seventeen artists have come up with a project called A Room of Your Own that opens on March 8 at the exhibition hall of the School of Fine Arts of the Universidad Complutense.

They are Greta Alfaro (Pamplona, 1977), Arantxa Boyero (Palma de Majorca, 1982), Lourdes Caicedo (Burgos, 1963), Carma Casula (Barcelona, 1966), Soledad Cordoba (Aviles, 1977), Barbara Fluxa (Madrid, 1974), Lola Guerrera (Cordoba, 1982), Amaya Hernandez (Madrid, 1980), Veronica Marquez (Montevideo, 1979), Lucia Morate (Valladolid, 1976), Linarejos Moreno (Madrid, 1974), Rosa Muñoz (Madrid, 1963), Concha Perez (Valladolid, 1969), Maria Platero (Madrid, 1976), Olga Simon (Madrid, 1974), Isabel Tallos (Madrid, 1983) and Zoe Vizcaino (Mexico, 1979).

The exposition –it will remain open till March 18- is organized by the abovementioned faculty, the Permanent Seminar on Literature and Women from the National Distance Education University (UNED), the School of Photography (EFTI) and the collaboration of the Institute of Women, Pepe Buitrago and Garcia & Co.

Curator Carmen Dalmau planned the exhibit’s opening to happen together with the 4th colloquium of the Permanent Seminar on Literature and Women from the National Distance Education University, whose main topic will hinge on “physical spaces, symbolic spaces” and includes workshops, performances and a roundtable discussion on women’s visual character in the arts.

In this context, the 30 artworks by emerging artists –photographs, videos and documentation on the workshop’s creative process- will portray their relationship with personal spaces in harmony with a conceptual line the curator has endorsed in the principles wielded by English writer Virginia Wolf: “a room of your own you can lock yourself up to create.”
