In its eighth year supporting the artistic production of Latin America, Spain and Portugal, Pinta is divided into multiple specific sectors, each one of them determined by a selection process and the work of a dedicated curatorial staff. Pinta CONTEMPORARY is the largest section of the fair, which will include a selection of twenty galleries offering the most innovative panorama of contemporary artists of this culture region.
Pinta CONTEMPORARY focuses on galleries that represent and promote young and mid-career artists whose works have not been widely disseminated outside their countries of origin, a first exhibition of a multifaceted art scene, which has gradually attracted growing global interest, surprising the viewer. This section of the fair will provide an innovative platform that will allow curators, critics and collectors to discover new talents.
What are the milestones to be considered in the construction of a cultural map of Latin America? In the past two decades, the diffusion of Latin America and its artists has experienced a rapid transformation in the global art scene. Every line of thought concerning contemporary art from the region has questioned historiographical models, on the one hand, and witnessed the consolidation of this art in the globalized market, on the other. The 20 galleries that comprise this edition of Pinta CONTEMPORARY 2014 attempt to address and elaborate on these issues, and thus exert their influence on the public, inspiring the acquisition of art from the region.
The participating gallerists will attempt to show, through a rigorous selection of artists, the different trends in contemporary Latin American art, namely, the changes in the periphery’s perspective with regard to the center; the different reflections revolving around the region, its geography, its identity, social and political issues, as well as other thematic axes that reflect the production of the past two decades, and that will offer the most innovative aspects of the panorama of Latin American artists.

The aim is to make Pinta CONTEMPORARY a solid platform to promote and consolidate the region’s artistic production at an international level, to expand the perspective, incorporating transversal views; to promote and broaden an understanding of the region, learn from its artistic practices and exhibit the work of artists whose approach to art is based on a multidisciplinary and specialized survey, as well as on a contemporary and global one.
