Antonio M. Xoubanova: “Un Universo Pequeño” exhibition

“Un Universo Pequeño” is the first exhibiiton of Antonio M. Xoubanova, Madrid 1977 at the Ángeles Baños Gallery. In this project, the artist represents and holds his own idea on the universe in 1.6 seconds and 10 street lineal meters.

The project is about a 1.5 meters full-length film of images and sequences referring to the principle of the things, technology, religion, the universe, the street, love, the matter and its different shapes, the most elemental of the human condition, the contemporary, publicity and the end of the existence.

In this case, the images represent a space according to the time they have. An image produced at 1/40 seconds of closing speed is physically 10 times bigger than other one at 1/400 seconds. So, the project is an attempt to materialize something as minimum, abstract and complex like 1,5 seconds of existence, a piece of matter or a small space.

While the universe defines as the sum of matter, time and space together, this work about “fotografía de calle” (street photography) is an attempt to deal with a controlled universe and the elements as part of it although they finally show that they are infinitely complex and uncontrollable.

Antonio M. Xoubanova studied photography at the number 10 Art School in Madrid. After ending his studies, he created the Blank Paper group in 2003 along with other photographers with whom he shared the same kind of interests.

Since 2005 he started to publish with regularity in different magazines such as GEO, Herald Tribune, New York Times, DAZED, PDN, BJP, El Semanal, Yo Dona, El Mundo, etc, while he combines these works as a professor in Blank Paper school and with personal projects like “M-30” and “Casa de Campo”; the latter is published in 2013 by MACK and exhibited at the Brachfeld Gallery Gallerie of Paris and Centro Centro, Madrid. This year, he participated along with other Spanish photographers in Regard sur la nouvelle escene photographique espagnol” en Le Bal, París.
