The influence of El Greco in the contemporary art in its fourth centenary

The year dedicated to the commemoration of the fourth centenary of the death of "El Greco" will end with the exhibition at the Francisco Godia Foundation next December.

Almost twenty exhibitions in museums and galleries have served to publicize the work of El Greco, either through its direct study or influence in the work of contemporary artists.

"El Greco Art and Craft," at the Museum of Santa Cruz in Toledo; "The Greco of the Museum of Fine Arts in Bilbao" and "El Greco. From Italy to Toledo. Technical study of the works of the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection," have focused on the work of Domenikos Theotokopoulos.

The work of the Cretan artist converses with the great figures of contemporary art in the exhibitions "El Greco and modern painting" in the Prado Museum, "Between Heaven and Earth: 12 looks at Greco", at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando and "El Greco Rusinol look" on Francisco Godia Foundation.

Among the events organized for the fourth centenary, it is worth mentioning the works in which contemporary artists show their linkages with El Greco, with work performed specifically for them, as in "Paraphrase the recption of El Greco in the current Neo-Baroque"in  the Provincial Museum of Albacete or "The hand on his chest" in the Tolmo Museum.
