The first edition of id·Arte Madrid Recicla Art & Recycling Contest has already started in an effort to increase public awareness on the importance of recycling and preserving the environment by means of artistic creations. The guidelines can be checked out on the website.
Over the past years, waste materials and their management have become one of the main challenges to be faced by industrialized societies. In a world where “use and drop” products have gained presence, it’s necessary to adopt a consumption model aimed at prolonging their usefulness period, or revalue them through the re-conceptualization of their meaning and original use.
id·Arte Madrid Recicla bets on creativeness to place emphasis on the different possibilities recycling puts on the table by means of such artistic disciplines as ephemeral architecture or the movies, thus showing that many of the things we throw out - and label as useless - can be recycled to create something new, not only with aesthetic use.
The first edition of the competition counts on an exceptional jury. Rodrigo Sorogoyen heads the Audiovisual Section, while young architect Sofía Blanco-Santos — who is presently studying at the Harvard University— and Pollock Krasner Award-winner painter and designer Carlos Maciá, chair the Installation Section.
The jury is also made up of Gonzalo Salazar-Simpson —current director of ECAM (Cinematography and Audiovisual School of Madrid and producer of such films as No habrá paz para los malvados and 8 apellidos vascos—, and Rufino Ferreras — who is in charge of Education Development at Madrid’s Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, director of the educational website www.educathyssen.org and projects like www.c2edumtb.org or www.aquipintamostodos.edu on artistic education and museums—.
