“GEOMETRICO”, DIEGO MASI’s Paintings, Installations

ENLACE ARTE CONTEMPORÁNEO Gallery (Av. Pardo and Aliaga 676 – San Isidro) is going to open Diego Masi’s solo show, “GEOMÉTRICO”, on Tuesday April 8, 7:30 pm. The curatorial approach goes deep, through a collection of recent and unpublished works, into his concerns and formal research by means of the geometry, the artist’s conceptual and poetic style.

“Geometric” is made up of nearly 17 artworks in different formats, acrylic on canvas, and one electro-mechanic installation entitled “Organic”, in which the artist steps into the dramatization by means of mechanisms that represent a sort of automaton theater, where the interaction among shapes of organic character are a metaphor of existence as such. The repetition of measures and figures with elements that refer to the organic world, generated by order, difference, similitude, proportion and disproportion, taken MASI closer to a geometric art. These measures and codes are present not only in his painting, but on the urban public space through interventions or electro-mechanic installations where the physical movement is generated. The absence of clear references and symbolism is a consequence of my abstention when it comes to having an influence on the viewer. It’s not about the representation, but an interpretation that has necessarily been conceived in different ways for all viewers.

Diego Masi graduated at the National Fine Arts School of Montevideo, Uruguay, where he received lessons given by Luis Ernesto Aroztegui between 1987 and 1993. Since 1987 to date he has received national and international awards, and he has participated in collective and solo shows in Uruguay and other countries. His works have been showcased in institutional collections and galleries in Argentina, Canada, United States, Puerto Rico, France, Peru, Germany, Singapore, Brazil, Uruguay, London, Dubai, Australia, Spain, Italy, Geneva, Monaco, Hong Kong, Japan y Seoul.
