Connecting different viewpoints on the world through art. That’s the proposal offered by artists Daniel Ruanova and Mely Barragán with the brand-new space TJ in China Project Space, nestled right in the heart of Tijuana city, which is going to tee off its activities with an exhibition entitled “Intención glocal intent”, which showcases the wok of four international artists. It includes the outstanding presence of Majorcan artist Diana Coca.
“You are in China and you are in Tijuana”, said Mely Barragán, an artist that along with Daniel Ruanova decided to develop a new project of cultural management: receiving foreign artists that are somehow connected to China and the Mexican border.
The points of view represented by Diana Coca (Spain-China), Julio M. Romero (Tijuana-California), Huwei (China) and Roberto Romero-Molina (Tijuana) are going to be interweaved at TJ in China. Ruanova and Barragán’s proposal began back in 2011 in Caochangdi (China), where they showed the art exchange that takes place in Mexico’s north border in one of the “new global centers”, getting specialized groups from that country interested in the contemporary culture of Tijuana, Mexico and the frontier.
TJ in China Project Space, according to its founders, “is a space for independent art that produces, promotes and multiplies contemporary art and dialogue in the new borders”.
